|||Johannesburg – The launch of the African National Congress Gauteng local government elections manifesto on Saturday was delayed by three hours due to the late arrival of ANC supporters.
The ANC said earlier it hoped to fill the 94 000-seat FNB Stadium bordering Soweto in Johannesburg for the launch.
Gauteng premier David Makhura announced that 80 128 ANC supporters from various regions had made it into the stadium with 15 000 others still outside and more arriving in buses.
In April the ANC failed to fill the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium in Port Elizabeth, which has a much smaller capacity, during the ANC’s national election manifesto launch.
The official programme on Saturday was set to start at 11am. By 2pm over half the stadium seats had been filled but the ANC has delayed the programme until the stadium reaches capacity.
