|||Johannesburg - Gauteng should expect cloudy skies and chilly winds this weekend as it dives head first into the winter months.
Although the cold front was moving over the whole country, Gauteng wouldn't be affected until Saturday, Christina Thaele, a weather forecaster for the SA Weather Service, said this morning.
She said Saturday would see small drops in temperature in the southern part of the province, and strong wind chill and cloudy conditions on Sunday.
“Temperatures are still cool, but are the warmer side of cool,” she said. “By tomorrow (Saturday), we’re expecting that cold front to move over the eastern part of the country.”
On Friday, Joburg will see a maximum temperature of 22°C and a minimum of 4°C. Temperatures in Vereeniging and Pretoria will be similar, with highs and lows of 22°C and 23°C, and 3°C and 7°C, respectively.
Saturday will see slight drops in Joburg and Pretoria, with a 6°C drop in the maximum temperature in Vereeniging.
Sunday will see large decreases across the board, with maximum temperatures of 16°C in Pretoria, 14°C in Joburg and 12°C in Vereeniging. Lows will be at 5°C in Pretoria, 2°C in Joburg and 0°C in Vereeniging.
“Wind chill is going to play a factor,” Thaele said. “It may feel colder than the temperature will actually be on Sunday.”
Eskom said on Friday there was no load shedding taking place. Power interruptions in the Bryanston area were a “localised issue” and City Power was working on the problem, it said.
