|||Johannesburg - A West Rand father who has been on the run for nearly a week following the discovery of his six-month-old-son’s body has been arrested.
Police launched a manhunt for the Strubens Valley, Roodepoort, man after his son was found dead in his cot. His skull was fractured and there were burn wounds on his body.
The man had been left at home with the baby while his wife went to work.
A day before the baby was found dead, the man put up a picture on Facebook saying: “Never push a man to violence, who has been waiting for an excuse to use it.”
Police spokesman Captain Kay Makhubele said on Thursday that the man was tracked down on Wednesday after a tip-off from security guards.
“He went back to his residence and the security guards held him and called the police. When he realised they had called police, he got into his vehicle and fled,” Makhubele said.
But police were in hot pursuit and caught him.
