Cape Town - Community activist Roscoe Jacobs is suing Cape Town Mayor Patricia De Lille for a whopping R1 million for allegedly calling him a tikkop (meth addict).

Jacobs, from the #GangsterismMustFall campaign, is taking De Lille to the Equality Court to “get justice”.

He expects the money and an unconditional public apology because he says the insult has tarnished his reputation.

He claims he’s been removed from the ANC proportional representative list while people on social media have questioned his crime fighting credentials.

“If you type my name on Google, her calling me a tikkop (meth addict) is the top three stories that come up,” an outraged Jacobs said.

“She would never have called a white man a tikkop, she insulted me this way because I am coloured.”

On June 7, De Lille went to Parkwood to introduce the DA’s ward councillor there.

Jacobs, from Hangberg, said he had been invited by the community to attend and claims that when De Lille saw him, she insulted him.

She reportedly said: “I don’t know what he is doing, but that tikkop (meth addict), Roscoe Jacobs, is totally confused.”

De Lille’s spokesperson Zara Nicholson said Jacobs is within his rights to approach the courts. “It is however very obvious that this is a desperate attempt to find some relevance. The mayor has no influence on what happens on other political parties’ PR lists.”
