ER24 said in a statement that the children, between the ages of 15 and 18, were injured when the bus rolled down the embankment off the R603 on Friday afternoon.
ER24 said that upon arrival by various emergency services units, it was discovered that the bus was laying on its roof and that most of the children had already made their way out of the vehicle and up to the roadside.
ER24 spokesperson Russel Meiring said: “Upon further assessment, paramedics discovered that almost 50 patients had sustained minor to moderate injuries.”
After being treated by paramedics at the scene, the patients were transported to various hospitals for further treatment.
Meiring said the cause of the accident was still being investigated by local authorities.
