Joburg residents can expect a significant amount of rainfall this week, says the SA Weather Service.
|||Johannesburg - Joburg residents - and those in several other parts of the country - can expect a significant amount of rainfall this week.
The SA Weather Service (SAWS) said showers and thundershowers should start on Tuesday afternoon.
“There is a 60 percent chance of showers this afternoon in Johannesburg which will continue overnight and into tomorrow morning,” forecaster Lulama Theme told The Star.
The wet weather conditions should subside by Wednesday afternoon, but will be expected to start again on Friday.
“There is a 30 percent chance of showers and thundershowers of Gauteng on Friday,” said Theme.
The rainfall will continue into the weekend with a 60 percent chance of showers expected on both Saturday and Sunday.
“On Saturday we expecting 15mm of rainfall in Johannesburg,” she said.
Theme added that temperatures in Joburg for this week are expected to be “cool” and could range from between 20 degrees celsius to 28 degrees celcius.
The SAWS said rainfall is also expected in parts of the country from Tuesday until early next week.
These include parts of the Eastern Cape, KwaZulu-Natal and the Free State.
Although most of these regions are only expecting thunderstorms, which will not be continuous, any rainfall would be welcome, she said.
As downpours are known to have previously caused havoc on the roads, with collisions and fatalities being reported, motorists and pedestrians are urged to exercise caution during the wet weather conditions.
