|||Cape Town - You can now apparently find more than old school friends and long-lost ex-lovers on social media.
Facebook has been forced to apologise after guns, drugs and sex were found for sale on its new “marketplace”.
The social media giant’s Marketplace, launched on Monday, is an online shop where users can sell anything from old clothes to houses through their Facebook account.
But smart users managed to exploit a “technical issue” in the store in the first hours of its opening to advertise illicit goods.
After discovering the flaw, the company apologised and said it would fix the glitch.
“As a result [of a technical issue in the reviewing system] certain posts with content that violated our policies were made visible to people visiting Marketplace,” said Mary Ku, Facebook’s director of product management.
Facebook said it would “closely monitor” the service to remove posts that violate its terms before Marketplace was made available to more people.
