The family of the missing Gauteng woman have joined the search by EMTs and rescue personnel after her vehicle got carried away down a river.
|||Johannesburg – A woman was swept downriver off a low-water bridge near 3rd Road in Chartwell, north of Johannesburg, ER24 said on Friday.
Paramedics, police and other rescue and provincial services responded to the incident, which occured on Thursday.
“Rescue services searched into the late hours of the evening, but later called off the search due to bad light,” said Russel Meiring the ER24 spokesperson.
He said the search continued early Friday morning with rescue divers searching the water while ER24 and other services searched the bank.
“Unfortunately, the woman has yet to be found,” said Meiring.
“It is understood that the woman attempted to cross the river in her motor vehicle when the vehicle got pushed against the barriers.”
Members of her family have joined the search.
Local authorities and emergency personnel are still on scene searching for woman.
