Durban - Stables and riding schools around Durban must be on the lookout for three suspected stolen Arabian mares from a farm in Botswana.

This is according to psychic, Jackie Pritchard, who is helping a couple in Botswana to find the missing mares.

Pritchard, who is from the Cape, works extensively with police on missing persons and missing animal cases.

On Friday Pritchard said the three horses were taken “in a carefully planned attack” and that the mares were close to Durban.

“I do feel they were watched for some time. These horses are a special breed and have been taken a long way. They are going to be sold in South Africa.

“They are not in Durban itself, I think north of Durban towards Richards Bay and the white mare will be sold next week to a riding school.

“The buyer will think the horse is a little neglected and will think she is from a rural area. These horses have been taken for their value and to be sold on. The white mare stands out, she has quite a beautiful presence about her,” said Fletcher.

The drama of the missing mares started at the end of February when farm owners, Louise and Willie Herbst found one of their fences, which borders South Africa, had been broken.

“We looked for them everywhere in our surrounding areas, with neighbours out looking as well. We went searching on the South African side last week, that’s when we found witnesses who have seen three sets of tracks. I am still crying, I have been searching everywhere. They are like our kids,” said Herbst.

The missing mares are a grey (white), chestnut with a white mark on the forehead and a chestnut with blaze and brand on the left shoulder.

Herbst said they were all micro-chipped and could not be sold without their passports.

It has been reported to Botswana police and the SA Stock Theft Unit in North West Province.
