Four awaiting trial prisoners allegedly escaped from the Lehurutshe police station through a toilet door which they accessed via a trapdoor in their holding cell.
|||Potchefstroom – One of four awaiting trial prisoners who escaped from custody at the Lehurutshe police station has been re-arrested, North West police said on Thursday.
Colonel Sabata Mokgwabone said the escape happened on Wednesday.
“According to information, the suspects escaped through a toilet door which is in another block of offices after they gained entry through a trapdoor from where they were kept,” he said.
“Karabo Motshwaedi, 20, was re-arrested the same day [Wednesday] in Welbedacht township. He has already appeared in the Lehurutshe Magistrates’ Court today [Thursday] and was remanded in custody until March 31.”
One of the men is facing a rape charge, while the others face charges of the possession of stolen goods and illegal substances.
Sabata said the circumstances around the escape was being investigated.
