|||Cape Town - The R27 and Dassenberg Drive near Cape Town has been closed to traffic, as strong winds have caused a fire that started in the area on Tuesday to flare up again.
City of Cape Town’s Fire Services spokesperson Theo Layne said the wind had changed direction causing the fire to flare up “in previously unburnt areas”.
The extensive vegetation fire started at about midday on Tuesday along the R27, or West Coast road, and covered about 12kms.
The City’s Fire and Rescue Service and Nature Conservation attended to the scene.
Layne said additional resources had now been deployed “including four helicopters, twenty one firefighting vehicles and eighty firefighters.”
